The Power Filter can be opened by choosing Power Filter from the Window menu. It allows you to filter a set of images into one or more different baskets by using one of three possible methods. The top part of the window is common to all methods:
First, you need to specify the location that you want to filter. If it is a folder location, you can optionally include all the subfolders in the filtering process. Next, you choose a tab according to your needs:
No Filter
The purpose of this filter is to add images to a basket in bulk.
Power Filter - No Filter
- Add all images to this basket is where you can select the basket that you want to filter into. You can also type a new name and the basket will be created automatically.
- Empty the basket before adding... causes PMIO to clear the basket contents before starting the filtering process.
- Open the basket in a new browser window causes PMIO to open a browser for the selected basket when the filtering process ends.
- Only add the first image found... causes PMIO to only add the first image found at a location. This makes it possible to filter a whole subtree of your file system and add one image for each location to a basket. The result will be a basket that visually represents all the filtered locations.
Rule Filter
This filter allows you to specify rules that will be obeyed during the filter process. This lets you build a system that works rather like a post office sorter. As letters are handled by the sorter, they are directed to various mailboxes based on certain criteria, for example the town or postcode. In the same way, as images are processed by each rule, they are directed to different baskets based on criteria such as file name, date, colour properties, etc.
Power Filter - Rule Filter
There is a group of six tool buttons to the right of the rule list:
- The New Rule tool creates a new rule.
- The Delete Rule tool deletes the selected rule.
- The Move Up tool moves the selected rule up in the list.
- The Move Down tool moves the selected rule down in the list.
- The Copy Rule tool copies the selected rule so that you can paste it.
- The Paste Rule tool pastes the last copied rule into the list as a new rule.
When a rule is selected you can edit it as follows:
- Use the drop-down lists to configure the condition under which the rule will be satisfied. When a rule is satisfied, the image is added to the basket that is associated with the rule. You can make up phrases such as:
If the image width is less than 320 pixels |
If the file date is between 1 Jan 2000 and 31 Dec 2003 |
If the average colour temperature is greater than 50% |
- Invert rule lets you reverse the rule's logic so that the image is added to the basket if the rule is not satisfied.
- Add the image to basket is where you can select the basket that you want the selected rule to filter into. You can also type a new name and the basket will be created automatically.
- Empty the basket before adding... causes PMIO to clear the basket contents before starting the filtering process.
- Open the basket in a new browser window causes PMIO to open a browser for the selected basket when the filtering process ends.
By adding more than one rule, you can add more criteria to the filtering process. An image must satisfy all the rules in the list or it will be rejected.
Note: The rules are not persistent across runs of PMIO. This is by design, but the rules may be made persistent in a future version of PMIO.
Duplicate Filter
This filter lets you find duplicate images. It works by cross referencing the images at the specified location (and optionally subfolders) with every image that is in the catalogue.
- It is important to remember that this function will only compare images if PMIO has previously seen those images so that they are recorded in the catalogue.
- If the catalogue is large, this function will take a while to load the catalogue information before it can start filtering.
