Using TWAIN to Acquire Images

TWAIN is a specification that standardises the way applications acquire images from devices such as scanners and cameras. It was developed by the TWAIN Working Group. In theory, any TWAIN-compliant device can be used by any TWAIN-compliant application. If your scanner or camera has TWAIN drivers, PMIO can obtain images from it.

Procedure

1. Under the File menu choose TWAIN and then click Select Source. This will display the standard TWAIN Select Source dialog.

Select Source Dialog

Choose the TWAIN source that you want to use. Windows remembers the source so next time you can skip this step unless you want to change it.

2. Under the File menu choose TWAIN and then click Acquire. This will display the user interface for your selected TWAIN source. It will also display the TWAIN Palette (unless this has been disabled in Preferences ).

TWAIN Palette

The TWAIN Palette is a compact version of the TWAIN Preferences page. For information on how to use its settings, please refer to that help page.

3. Use the TWAIN user interface to scan or capture the images. As each image is acquired, it will be sent to PMIO which will then do the following:

When you have finished, close the TWAIN user interface and PMIO will close the TWAIN Palette.
